The Compaq Portable Model III

This is an early IBM compatible PC, this one has a 11 megabyte hard disk as well as a 51/2 " floppy drive. When closed the keyboard covers the screen and becomes the base of the unit. The machine is called portable, but is better described as luggable.

The closed unit looks just like a domestic sewing machine, so much so that I very nearly missed it when scouring a local boot sale. The machine was originally purchased in the USA along with some software and an extra screen for home use, and it is believed to have cost in excess of $2,000. I purchased this machine and all it documentation as well as some other extra's from its original owner for £5 early in1999
